| RAID 6 Arrays Data Recovery |
RAID 6RAID 6 needs a minimum of 4 drives in the array and is similar to RAID 5 with the exception that there is second parity block stored within the array. This means that two drives in the array will need to fail before the data becomes inaccessible. In the picture below, the block size would be equal to A1 and the stripe size would be equal to A1, A2, A3, Ap and Aq 
Advantages and Disadvantages of RAID 6The only real advantage is the extra fault tolerance, with a maximum of 2 simultaneous drive failures. Because of the extra parity calculations RAID is slightly slower than RAID 5 |
