Remote Floppy Disk Recovery Service

MAC users will need access to a PC. The program will image MAC disks.

  1. First, download the free imaging program (Kindly Provided by Netz computing Ltd)
  2. Once the download is complete, run the program. If you want to change the default directory do so now. When ready, click the 'Unzip' Button. Once the program has finished, press the Cancel button.
  3. On the corrupt floppy disk, set the write tab to write-protect by moving the tab so that you can see through the hole, this will protect the disk from any accidental over writing. Insert the floppy disk into the drive.
  4. Go to the dos prompt and type the following highlighted in bold; CD \RESQ and press enter.
RESQFLPY and press enter. A copyright message appears, under that the text 'Choose floppy type' appears along with the common sizes of floppy disks. The vast majority of which are 1.44MB. So ...
Press 4 for a 1.44MB Floppy disk or the appropriate number for the size of floppy to be recovered.
Type I (the letter 'i') ' to create an image of the floppy. Press 'A ' (If your machine has two floppy drives you can select A or B as appropriate). If an image file already exists, you will be asked if you want to overwrite it. If you don't want to overwrite any existing image files, rename the original file to a suitable name and start from 3 above.

Wait for the dots to fill the screen and the message 'Operation complete' will show. If there are x's instead of dots, these represent bad sectors and the imaging process time will depend upon how many bad sectors there are. If the imaging software can not see the floppy then there may be a hardware problem with the physical drive or the actual floppy media may have come detached from its hub. If either is the case, then stop the imaging process. Also, stop the imaging process if there are no readable sectors in the first line then contact us as this may indicate a more serious problem.
  5. Once the operation is complete, exit from the dos prompt by typing 'exit' and press enter. Click on the e-mail link at the bottom of this screen and attach the file
c:\resq\RESQ-IMG.FIL (you can copy and paste this into the attachment/file dialog box). Include details of the problem in the message and telephone/contact details then hit the send button.

This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Once we have evaluated or recovered the file we will contact you to arrange return of the data. Normally this will be in 6-12 hours from receipt, however customers outside the EU may have to wait until the following day. This is probably quicker than sending the floppy to an external data recovery company.
