MjM Data Recovery Limited One of the first companies to be able to recover from solid State hard disks. We started our research into data recovery from SSD devices in 2004. Unlike standard hard disks Solid State Disks have no moving parts, no motor, no heads, nothing. Just memory chips.

Like photo cards, the manufacturers use a technique called Wear Levelling. This means that in order to prolong the life of the memory chips, it is divided into blocks. Each block is of a specific size and so each time a file is updated, the blocks containing the file are written to a different location 'leveling' the wear so that each bank is used the same number of times.

As these devices have no moving parts, the problems these drives suffer from are

• Logical
  Deleted files, virus damage, formatted disks, etc.
  
  
• Electronic failure
  Power surge, component failure.

Working on the electronics requires specialist equipment and often involves removal of the memory chips in order to recover the data. This requires special handling and proprietary software in order to rebuild the data according to the wear levelling algorithms used by the manufacturer.

We have been able to successfully rebuild data from the above manufacturers of SSD cards. If your drive manufacturer is not listed, it does not mean we are unable to recover. Many manufacturers use the same or similar processors that use the same or similar wear levelling techniques.
